  • Recently we’ve been plagued by the Corona Virus, a virus that originated from the city of Wuhan in China. The Novel Corona Virus or COVID-19 is a virus which originated from the same family as SARS and MERS which attacks the upper respiratory tract. It is still unknown what is the main cause of the virus; some say it originated from bats, others say it came from a laboratory outbreak in Wuhan. Although it has a low death rate of just 3.4%, it is a very contagious disease with 244,517 confirmed cases. The virus has an incubation period of 2 weeks which means that the period between the initial exposure to the virus and the appearance of the first symptoms is 2 weeks. Symptoms included coughing and sneezing, fever, and shortness of breath although there are cases where the disease is asymptomatic which means that the body doesn’t show any symptoms when being infected. This disease has become a pandemic and many countries have instructed their citizens to work and learn from home. Some countries have even taken extreme measures to impose a “lockdown”. A “lockdown” is a state where a country prevents anyone and anything from traveling in and out of the country. During these period, many people are advised to stay at home and not to go anywhere unless really needed. Because of this, many people are bored and started going out of schedule e.g: staying up late more often, not exercising, etc. Because of this I’m going to give you some tips and tricks on how to stay fit and healthy during the pandemic.
  • 1. Always wash your hands

This may sound like a small thing and actually a lot of people rarely wash their hands and not realizing the importance, especially in times like these. Since the virus mainly enters from the skin, it is most advisable to wash hands every time you have the chance.

    2. Don’t touch your face

This is a common habit everyone has and it’s very hard to get rid of. I know this one is easier said than done. But trying not to touch your face is very nice considering the virus mainly enters from the skin and your face has big holes for the virus to enter e.g: your nostrils, ears, and mouth.

    3. Exercise!

Exercising is a very good way of keeping your body in shape. Whether it’s running, playing basketball, or doing yoga, exercise will reward your body with excellent health conditions. But people tend to just do nothing during the work and study from home programs. The most effective way to still be fit while in a confined area is to do athletics, such as push-ups, sit-ups, burpees, you name it. These moves will ensure the best use of space to ensure maximum healthiness. But I strongly advise you not to swim during the pandemic due to the virus’ main media of transportation is through water.

    4. Eat healthy

Most of the time, people eat junk food and other unhealthy foods rather than healthy food during the work-from-home program. This lifestyle is very bad for you considering that you must keep you immune system strong during these times. A balanced diet is strongly suggested so that means not too much of one thing. For example, eating just vegetables is good, but it’s better to balance it with meat and some carbs.

    5. Keep your mind healthy

Often times, people think too much of their work, school, etc and does that on a daily basis. But at these times, people think a lot more resulting in the mind being tired and could lead to stress. Why we shouldn’t be stressed you ask? Well if we get stressed our immune system weakens and as a result is more vulnerable to the virus. Some ways to prevent stress are to seek entertainment, eat accordingly, and communicate more with friends and family via video calls or via texting them.
